This charming home is reminiscent of those built into mountains and found in
alpine retreats near ski country. Located in the scenic Mono hills, it’s
perfectly placed in a rural setting close to the Hockley Resort for skiing
and golf and just 5 minutes to the town of Orangeville. This Scandinavian
Scribe Log home is constructed from massive round pine logs harvested in
Northern Ontario and are on average a diameter of 14 inches. The log walls
possess a high R-Value as logs retain and radiate heat back toward the
source resulting in significant energy savings. Translation they hold in the
heat in winter and provide a cool interior in the summer with shading from
the sun. Each massive log has been cut and fit into the other and was built
once by the master builder (Parker) on another site and then taken apart and
put together again where it stands today. He has actually signed this home
on the end of one of the exterior logs, as indeed it is a work of art. These
are truly incredible structures and this one is no exception. The golden
logs have been preserved and are exposed entirely in the inside of the house
on the main and the 2nd floor. Overhead beams and staircases bring back a
feeling of another era when the pioneers carved out their homes from the
surrounding forests. These buildings were always accompanied by woodstoves
that sent out radiant heat and were held by the log walls through the night.
The free standing high efficiency woodstove does exactly that. There are 2
bedrooms on the 2nd level and 2 more in the lower walk out level. Large eat
in kitchen with ample oak cupboards, U shaped counter with breakfast bar and
eat in area with steps to the “snuggery” and wood burning fireplace. Perfect
location for week-end retreat or full time use.
